Patio Makeover with Outer
Hey, everyone! It’s been forever since I’ve blogged, but let’s just jump right in! Before we do, this post does contain a review on gifted items, but as ALWAYS, my opinions and statements are my own.
Okay, so we’ve wanted to give our patio a refresh for FOREVER. There are two large sections in our patio and we decided with a new baby, it was best to tackle this project one section at a time. So today we’re focusing on our covered patio area. There were a few non-negotiables for me when it came to outdoor furniture. It needed to be made with sustainably sourced materials, I needed it to be beautiful, I needed it to be comfortable (hello, memory-foam cushions!), and I really wanted to work with a brand that was POC founded. In this case, Outer is AAPI founded. One last CRUCIAL detail. I needed this to not fall apart 3 months into an Arizona summer. So let’s get a visual of what we were working with.
That’s a digital rendition of our backyard and the layout we originally wanted for our setup. Outer offers quite a few options when it comes to materials. I’ll be speaking on the Teak because that’s what we ended up going with. Outer’s teak is sourced from responsibly managed teak fields in Central Java. Not only that but for each tree they harvest, the farm plants three more in its place. Plus, Outer is a 1% for the Planet member, so they also partnered with One Tree Planted to help fight deforestation even more. They have committed to planting 1 million new trees through One Tree Planted and they are a Climate Neutral Certified brand.
Outer’s fabric is stain-resistant, water-resistant, and so easy to clean! Even better, they make sure their dye process is non-toxic. And, the whole Sofa is 100% recyclable IF and when you’re all done with it. But with the way this is made, we expect that to be WAYS away. One of the more interesting things that really stood out to us was that initially, Outer planned to use Sunbrella fabric which is what our old patio set was made of. But instead, they developed their own fabric that has all of the qualities people look for when searching for patio furniture but rarely find; theirs really is just better.
Okay, now to the good stuff!
Our Patio Before
We have a pretty great space, but it was so outdated. We didn’t want to have to paint, or do anything extensive yet. We just know that with everyone being home, we wanted a cozier and comfortable space to safely entertain, hang out, and host lots of small gatherings. So we got rid of our old dining table, power washed the outside, and here we go!
Our Patio After
We went with quite a few amazing items for our patio all from the Teak Collection which you can CLICK HERE TO SHOP. And if you’re honestly only here for the links and discount, you can use my code CHASINGDENISSE300 for $300 off of your purchase!
We went with the following:
We’ve been making small improvements and I cannot wait to outfit the other side of our patio with more Outer furniture. We are truly obsessed. As a new mom with a drooling and teething baby, AND a super drool-prone dog, I just needed something beautiful, easy to clean, and fun.
Durability
I’ve waited quite a bit of time to share this review. As mentioned above, durability was a HUGE factor for us. Arizona heat is just brutal. Nothing survives, and if it does, it’s usually ugly. Our furniture has seen monsoon season (wait until I share the cushion covers in action), wind storms, and dust storms. Not a stain or scratch in sight. That is not only attributed to the Grade-A Teak and super high-performance proprietary fabric, but also to Outer’s patented OuterShell(R). This company is so innovative— they realized no one uses their outdoor furniture when it’s dirty, or when they have a floppy, hard-to-put-on-and-take-off cover. So, they built one INTO the sofa. It takes 5 seconds to roll off or over the cushions, so the couch is literally always clean, dry, and ready to be sat on. And, it turns into a little carrying case to easily transport just the cushions if you do need to move them for long periods of really bad weather. Needless to say, we’re really really happy.
We’ll be hosting our very first outdoor party in TWO weeks for my daughter’s first birthday. I am SO SO SO excited and I can’t wait to show you guys pictures from that event. The few people that have seen our patio are already obsessed with this, so I know everyone is going to love it. Have you seen that before? This is like beyond a makeover.
Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be updating you on durability and upkeep in a few months. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to keep up with my Outer Adventure.
