Mockingbird Stroller Review
*This product was gifted to us by Mockingbird but all opinions and thoughts in this review are my own.
Hey friends! As promised, slowly but surely, we’re getting to use all of our baby gear and really forming some strong opinions about it all. One thing I’ve noticed is that you and your baby either love something, or you absolutely hate it. For this particular review, let’s just start by saying WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Full disclosure, we are fortunate enough to have two strollers. One for travel and our Mockingbird. This took A LOT OF RESEARCH because strollers are really hard to choose. There’s an overwhelming amount of options online, and because we were expecting during the thick of the pandemic, we weren’t really able to go anywhere and test strollers out. I knew the features that I wanted and the things I wasn’t going to compromise. So again, after a lot of research, videos, and more research, I came across the Mockingbird and I reached out.
This stroller is EVERYTHING. Above all, its safety features are incredible. We’ll get into that in a little bit, but because I’m me, I want to start by saying that it is beautiful! I know many people won’t outwardly admit this, but I often try to find things that are practical and aesthetically pleasing. I don’t want an eyesore. Sorry, not sorry! One thing I did notice though during my research was that the really aesthetically pleasing strollers were incredibly out of a comfortable budget for us, and not all that practical. Yes, even though this was gifted to us, I would never share anything I wouldn’t purchase myself.
The stroller comes in a sleek black look with beautiful leather handles. We opted for the Penny leather (tan) accent color, but the leather features also come in a black option. You can customize your canopy in 2 ways -- the outside color and the inside pattern. The frame of the stroller itself is a gorgeous matte silver. This thing really is nice to look at. But we know looks aren’t everything, so let’s get into the deets!
I’m sure you’re curious about pricing. Now, remember that research we did? We found that strollers with similar looks and features ranged from $1k-$2k. I love our baby. I love nice things. But that’s just not something I really wanted to do. As we all know, babies require lots of amazing things and it all eventually adds up. I wanted to make sure I shared something that was both beautiful and affordable. The Mockingbird Stroller starts at $395. Yes. Three hundred and ninety-five dollars.
The stroller itself has amazing features. The canopy is an extendible all-weather canopy with a magnetic peekaboo window, mesh panel for great airflow, and an attachable full coverage sunshade. This is CRUCIAL for us because we live in Arizona where it’s really hard to escape the sun. Oh and remember those canopy pattern options? Both are high-contrast black-and-white patterns designed to help promote early childhood visual development.
Another great feature we love is that you can fold the stroller with just one hand. That’s with or without the seat attached. It also comfortably sits upright when you fold it. So if you need your hands for something else, you can easily leave it to fend for itself. Getting into the frame a little more… It really is super stable and comfortable. It’s also versatile. If you’re wanting a forward-facing experience, you can opt for that. For now, we have ours in parent-facing mode. She’s still quite tiny, but we love the option to have it both ways.
One more thing I want to touch on is storage. The basket is really big. It can hold up to 25lbs and there’s a detachable front cover for extra protection or easy access. So even though you can hang your baby bag on the handles, if you want a less cluttered experience, you can just place it in the basket along with anything else you may need to store. Trust me, there’s room!
I mentioned that the stroller “starts” at $395 because you can purchase additional accessories to fit your needs. But rest assured that everything I mentioned above comes with your initial purchase. The accessories available for the Mockingbird stroller are incredible. Right off the bat, we love that it’s a convertible single to double stroller. Meaning if you later choose to expand your family, you can use the same stroller with the 2nd Seat Kit ($120). This is a great option for families with multiple children. We hope to have another in the future, so this is perfect for us!
Just to clarify, the Single-to-Double Stroller costs $395 and the 2nd Seat Kit costs $120, but if purchased together you actually get a slight discount which brings the total to $495. Another thing to note: They do sell a Single Stroller for $350. It's extremely similar to the Single-to-Double but is not able to be converted to a double. This is a great option for families who don't intend on having more than 1 kid and costs a bit less.
Because this is a stroller that grows with you, you can literally use it as soon as you bring your little one home. There is an Infant Seat Insert ($30), and there’s also what we have, The Carriage ($100)… The Carriage was gifted to us by our sweet friend Jessica of SunKiss Organics. We absolutely love it! At just 6 weeks old, we lay our bunny down in there and she’s comfortably asleep or exploring the new sounds and sights.
There is also a Car Seat Adapter available for $30. You can choose from the following car seat brands: Baby Jogger, Britax (we have this one), Chicco, Cybex, Evenflo, Graco, Maxi-Cosi, Nuna, and UPPAbaby. Altogether, the Car Seat Adapter supports 25 car seat models. This is great if you’re into going from the car seat to the stroller. ESPECIALLY if your baby is napping. You don’t want to have to disturb their sweet slumber by having to unbuckle and transport them to the stroller.
Another thing I love are the available weather accessories. You can grab a Rain Cover for just $20. It doesn’t rain much here (bummer, I know), but we do have monsoon season, and no one wants to get caught in one of those. There’s also a Footmuff available for $50. Perfect for cold-weather comfort and protection for your little one. & if you’re hands are ALWAYS cold like mine, you can grab a Hand Muff for $30. I may just grab this and walk around with it at all times. My hands are literally ALWAYS freezing. For more tropical or warmer climates there’s a mosquito net available for $10. This is clutch for us. Especially during hikes are park visits. The last thing you want is a bug bite frustrating your little one!
Here are some other accessories that can enhance your experience. We don’t own these as some of them are only available for pre-order, but as Olivia grows, we’ll be adding these affordable accessories to our experience. There’s a cup holder ($15). Perfect for your water bottle or in my case, your coffee cup. Right now you can visit their accessories page and pre-order the Snack Tray ($30), Parent Organizer ($20), and the Seat Liner ($20).
I promise I’m not just trying to sell you stuff. Those are not affiliate links. I did want to make it a point to show you the value of this stroller. If we add up every extra feature and accessory, our total is $870. That includes the price of the stroller. Every single accessory, all of which you may not need, and then some. It’s STILL less expensive than most luxury strollers.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re amazing! I tried to be as thorough as possible because I know what an investment a stroller is. & in this family, we are all about quality, longevity, and frankly buying things right the first time so that we don’t have to buy another.
If you’re into knowing what materials the products you purchase contain, here’s some info you may find helpful. The frame is built with anodized aluminum and the handlebar is made from leatherette. So like all of their products, it contains no animal by-products. The seat and basket are made of heavy-duty nylon which makes for easy cleaning!
So all of the above is amazing. We can agree on that. But what about actual use? We’ve been home with Olivia for a little over 7 weeks now. And though we haven’t used it for the full 7 weeks, we’ve used it for about a month and we truly love the way it moves. It’s smooth, easy to navigate, clean, and store. I wanted something that wouldn’t be a chore for me to handle on my own, and something smooth for the varying terrains here in Arizona.
So whether you’re wanting to add the stroller to your Babylist registry (which we highly recommend) or you’re grabbing it yourself, know that we really do love our Mockingbird and I hope you found this helpful. If you have ANY questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Mockingbird also has a phenomenal FAQ page you can find HERE.
We are so looking forward to watching Olivia grow through many fun walks. & we’re so grateful that the Mockingbird team gifted us this incredible stroller.
Happy adventuring!
